The launch of Bin Salman's Al Sharq channel from Dubai ... Arab journalists join its ranks and criticize its name being stolen

Doha - “Al-Quds Al-Arabi”: Al-Sharq TV, affiliated to Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, launched from its main studios in Dubai, in an attempt to polish his image abroad.

The official broadcast of the channel began, on Wednesday, under the slogan "Putting the Points" ... "Al Sharq News". The channel provides coverage around the clock for news of the Arab region and the world. It is based in the capital, Riyadh, and has central offices in Dubai and Washington, and offices distributed in the capitals of the region and the world.

Bin Salman seeks to enhance his media image by launching the channel, in cooperation with the American Bloomberg Network.

The Saudi Al-Sharq channel, which is run by the Saudi Research and Marketing Group, which also publishes Al-Sharq Al-Awsat newspaper, and My Lady magazine, is backed by Ahmed bin Salman, brother of the crown prince.

Before its launch, the station changed its name more than once, and it was decided at first to name the channel Bloomberg, then Bloomberg Arabs, then later Bloomberg East, before finally it was decided to abandon the international name, and to name the channel “East”.

Dr. Nabil Al-Khatib, General Manager of Al-Sharq News Channel and Al-Sharq News Services Company, talked about the vision of Al-Sharq News, which was launched under the slogan “We put the points.”

He said, "The basis of the content provided by the East is news, and news in the East is the starting point for an integrated story that includes news, analysis, all opinions and its various dimensions, and it is content that meets our slogan by placing points. As he says. He emphasized that “Al Sharq” focuses on economic content and its analysis as it is interested in highlighting the economic impacts on the social and political conditions in Arab countries, provided by an exclusive partnership with Bloomberg, the global company in the field of international business and financial information and news, in addition to the efforts of 2,700 financial and economic analysts and correspondents affiliated with Bloomberg about the world."

Among the media names that joined the channel are the Egyptian journalist Moataz Al-Demerdash, the Saudi journalist Hani Al-Hijazi, the Syrian journalist Zeina Yazji, the Kuwaiti broadcaster Abdullah Al-Yahya, presenter of programs and bulletins in the political news section, and the Saudi Abdul Rahman Al-Shatiri, newscast anchor and political programs presenter.

The station had recorded an interaction since the announcement of the Lebanese journalist working at the new station, Jad Ghosn, his move to Dubai to join the East. When some of the tweeters dug up his old tweets on Twitter, he fiercely attacks the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

And Jad's joining turned into a public opinion issue that occupied the trend in “Twitter” in Saudi Arabia, which prompted the channel, according to its director, to declare in an ambiguous way that it did not contract with Jad in the first place, and that what came on his tongue represented only him.

The Egyptian dissident Ayman Nour criticized the robbery of the Saudi channel over the name of his channel, and wrote a tweet last year, denouncing the matter. He said, "I have now learned that the company to which I have been assigned the task of preparing for the new channel that robbed the name of the East is" Bloomberg "and the channel's director is Nabil Al-Khatib, and the channel is one of the products of the Saudi Research and Marketing Company and its relationship with the Emirates, such as Al-Arabiya and MBC.

Journalist Ahmed Samir wrote in a tweet, “People have chosen to use the axis of evil for the same name as Al-Sharq TV, bankruptcy or fraud ?! In any case, it is a behavior that is not respected, and thus it is reflected on the project and its workers. The East is a partner of the cause and the field. The bias towards the hopes and aspirations of the people cannot be equated with a channel to deceive and deceive the people, so beware of the fraudulent East.

Saudi Arabia, in coordination with Abu Dhabi, has been trying for years to launch media projects to position itself in the arena and compete with Al-Jazeera, which numbers and data indicate that it is still number one in the Arab media, and is at the forefront of the scene internationally as well. And all Saudi and Emirati investments failed to provide competitive media content close to the Arab viewer.
